Symbiote wins Digital Impact Award for Innovative Use of Sitecore

Symbiote has won the Innovative Use of Sitecore Award at the Digital Impact Awards for its work with the Department of Transport and Planning on Transport Victoria's Digital Experience Platform.

The award highlights bold, boundary-pushing implementations of Sitecore technology. The project which also earned a shortlisting for the Content & Experience Innovation Award, delivered a 12% increase in self-service user sessions through unified, accessible design whilst improving content team efficiency using Sitecore XM Cloud and Search.

Transport Victoria serves millions of Victorians with critical road safety and active transport information at transport.vic.gov.au. The platform enables content teams to scale with confidence whilst maintaining the high standards required for essential public services.

Mobile, tablet and desktop devices showcase the new Transport Victoria digital presence

"This award recognises that innovation in government digital services isn't just about adopting new technology, it's about fundamentally improving how millions of people access essential information” says Owen Windsor, Managing Director.

Being recognised globally for this work is particularly meaningful. "It shows that Australian government digital services are setting benchmarks internationally," Windsor adds.

Technical excellence meets operational reality

In redeveloping Transport Victoria’s customer-facing website, Symbiote consolidated and streamlined existing PTV components to incorporate into the Transport Victoria website, including major PTV tools like journey planning and navigation features, the myki portal, disruptions, timetables, forms, PDFs and road rule information, and general website content.

Marcus Nyeholt, Head of Technology, points to the scale of the technical challenge. “We brought together multiple systems and tools into a unified platform that serves millions of users whilst giving content teams the efficiency they need to manage it all.”

Built for effective Government service delivery

"From the beginning, this project was about understanding operational realities and user needs, then designing a solution that worked for both," says Amanda Brown, Head of Strategy & Projects.

“We've made it easier for Victorians to find what they need—and that's the measure that matters most in public service delivery."
