We believe a Yes vote will recognise 65,000 years of indigenous connection to this land, establishing a practical path to better outcomes for First Nations people.

We believe a Yes vote will recognise 65,000 years of indigenous connection to this land, establishing a practical path to better outcomes for First Nations people.

The Voice to Parliament referendum is taking place in Australia on Saturday 14 October, 2023.

Company co-founders, Marcus Nyeholt and Owen Windsor will both vote Yes in the upcoming referendum.

‘Fairness and respect are a core part of who we are – they’re fundamental values we've built Symbiote on. That extends to the community we live and work in, and part of that is acknowledging that we live and work on land that was stolen from First Nations people.’

‘All our work is based on evidence and respectful consultation and co-design. My decision to vote Yes is based on the significant and extended consultation process with First Nations people that led to the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This called for, “… the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution and a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making and truth-telling about our history.’ – Marcus Nyeholt, co-founder of Symbiote.

‘We hope that an Indigenous Voice to Parliament will provide the mechanism to enable First Nations peoples to directly contribute to the development of policies and legislation that impact their communities and their lives as individuals.

‘It’s a first step, and a meaningful step, towards genuine reconciliation and promoting self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

‘We’ve encouraged our whole team to learn about this issue, as part of our cultural learning program, so they can make up their own minds. At Symbiote, when we don’t know something we do some research.’ – Owen Windsor, co-founder of Symbiote.
